Thai Nguyen Province Expands Public Green Spaces with Ambitious Park Projects

Thai Nguyen Province Expands Public Green Spaces with Ambitious Park Projects

Currently, Pho Yen Town has begun implementing a large-scale project: a Cultural - Sports - Green Park Complex covering 44 hectares, with a total investment of over 546 billion VND (approx. USD 23 million). The project is in the site clearance phase and is expected to be completed by the end of 2022.

At present, Thai Nguyen Province has 12 urban areas, including three provincial-level cities: Thai Nguyen City, Song Cong City, and Pho Yen Town; along with nine district-level towns, consisting of five district centers and four additional towns.

According to Thai Nguyen News, local authorities have reviewed land resources allocated for parks and public green spaces, with plans to expand and optimize existing land for this purpose.

Citywide Green Projects Underway

  • Thai Nguyen City plans to pilot six neighborhood-level public green spaces and flower gardens, totaling around 19,200 square meters.

  • The city is also proposing several large-scale parks, each covering 10 hectares or more, and will continue reviewing and recommending additional projects for future phases.

  • These six parks and flower gardens are planned for the Phan Dinh Phung, Tuc Duyen, Thinh Dan, and Hoang Van Thu wards.

A minimum of 15 public parks, flower gardens, and green spaces are expected to be built across Thai Nguyen province.

  • Song Cong City plans to develop three parks, including one with an area of over 20 hectares.

  • Pho Yen Town is planning to develop six parks, each with a minimum area of 10 hectares.

Pho Yen's Cultural - Sports - Green Park Complex (44 hectares) is one of the flagship developments, already underway.

Policy Support for Urban Greening

Previously, on June 17, the Thai Nguyen Provincial People's Committee issued Directive No. 13 regarding the management and promotion of urban greenery across the province.

Under this directive, local authorities are required to invest in and complete systems of public parks and concentrated green spaces in accordance with approved urban master plans.

Cities, towns, and districts are urged to prioritize allocating maximum land for green areas, parks, and flower gardens in residential zones, new urban developments, and existing neighborhoods. They are also encouraged to propose solutions to renovate and improve older residential areas that currently lack sufficient green space as required by regulations.

In the near future, the province plans to pilot a model to convert unused public land or small interstitial plots in residential areas into community flower gardens and landscaped green areas. It will also test self-managed park models in selected localities.
